Electricity interconnection will primarily benefit Nicosia, Mitsotakis says

The electricity interconnection (GSI) is a project that will primarily benefit Cyprus, which is isolated in terms of energy, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said,y responding to questions during his a press conference at the Thessaloniki International Fair.

Speaking on 8 September, he stressed the need for Cyprus to prove in practice that it wants this project, noting that "our intention is for the project to start and be completed". He expressed the will to do his utmost to ensure that Athens and Nicosia are on the same page as regards this issue. 

Mitsotakis also expressed the view that there would soon be “clear visibility from Cyprus that it wants this project and means it,” allowing it progress to the next stage.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the GSI was not the only high-priority project of this kind, noting those to connect Crete, the Dodecanese islands and Egypt.
