Law Commissioner Louiza Zannetou presented Cyprus' legal system and the role of her Office to interpreters of the European Parliament on 27 August, in view of the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Republic of Cyprus during the first half of 2026.
A press release issued by the Commissioner’s Office said that she delivered a speech in the framework of the European Parliament Interpreters’ Training Program, aimed at familiarizing interpreters who translate from Greek to the other official EU languages with the particularities of Cyprus.
The presentation focused on issues related to the functioning of the Cypriot state and the three powers, on the basis of the provisions of the Constitution: the executive, the judiciary, and the legislature, as well as the role of the Office of the Law Commissioner.
Among other things, the Commissioner also referred to the Doctrine of Necessity, which, as she said, shaped the course of the Republic of Cyprus. She also referred to the legislative drafting process, and the role of the Law Office of the Republic.
