Foreign Ministry confirms possible Cyprus - Greece - Syria meeting in NY

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus has confirmed, without further details, the intention to hold a trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Syria, and Cyprus in September 2025, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The idea arose on Wednesday, 20 August, during the meeting in Athens between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Syrian Transitional Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani.

Lana Zochiou, spokesperson for the Greek Foreign Ministry, stated after the meeting that the two Ministers affirmed "their commitment to advancing regional cooperation through the establishment of a trilateral framework involving the Republic of Cyprus, with a potential first meeting at the Foreign Minister level in September 2025, during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York".

Regarding the arrangements, Cypriot government sources told the Cyprus News Agency on the afternoon of 21 August that "preparations are ongoing. We refer you to the announcement by the Greek Foreign Ministry."
