Downward trend in the number of bounced cheques over the past four years, CBC says

The number of bounced cheques has shown a downward trend over the past four years, according to statistical data published today by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) for July 2025.

According to entries in the Central Information Registry (CIR), there were 255 issuers of bounced cheques in 2022, 274 in 2023, and 202 in 2024, while in the first seven months of 2025 the number of issuers stood at 63.

It is noted that from January 2022 to date, 794 cases of issuers of bounced cheques have been recorded.

Similarly, the number of bounced cheques on the preliminary list was 473 in 2022, 356 in 2023, 300 in 2024, and 145 in the first seven months of 2025, while the value of bounced cheques amounted to €1,518,669 in 2022, €1,767,912 in 2023, €617,873 in 2024, and €312,599 in the first seven months of 2025. The total value from January 2022 to date amounts to €4,217,054.
