A spotlight on each sector's job vacancies and the industry with no available positions

The number of job vacancies remains significantly increased, demonstrating, on the one hand, the strong growth of the economy with the consequent creation of a multitude of jobs and, on the other hand, the conditions of full employment and the lack of personnel with which almost all Cypriot businesses are faced.

Vacancies in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 13,524, showing an increase of 295 positions or 2.2% compared to the first quarter of 2024 (13,229) while, compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, an increase of 527 positions (4.1%) was recorded.

The percentage of vacancies in relation to total employees and vacant positions was 2.9%, while the previous quarter and the corresponding quarter of 2024 were 2.8% and 3% respectively.

The highest percentages of vacancies occur in the sectors of arts, entertainment and recreation (6.9%), accommodation and food service activities (5.2%) and transportation and storage (4.5%).

On the contrary, the electricity, natural gas, steam and power supply sector records a zero vacancy rate.

The lowest rates are also recorded in education (0.9%), in human health and social work activities (1.4%) and in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (1.5%).

Most vacant positions

Numerically, the most job vacancies were recorded in the first quarter of 2025 in accommodation and food service activities (hotels, restaurants), reaching 2,664, declining, however, by 31.1% from 3,869 in the corresponding period last year.

In wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, vacancies stood at 2,422 compared to 2,322 in the first quarter of 2024.

Job vacancies in professional, scientific and technical activities amounted to 1,325, in manufacturing to 1,157 (with an annual increase of 67.7%), while a total of 941 vacancies were recorded in transportation and storage.

In the construction sector, vacancies fell by 21.4% to 803, in information and communication they increased by 26.9% to 765, while vacancies in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector increased by an impressive 354.4%, reaching 677.

In administrative and support activities, 656 job vacancies were recorded, in public administration and defense and compulsory social security 495, while in financial and insurance activities 440.

The fewest vacancies

No vacancies were recorded in the first quarter of 2025 in the supply of electricity, natural gas, steam and air conditioning, down from just nine in the corresponding quarter of 2024.

A total of 22 vacancies were recorded in the mining and quarrying sector, up from five in the corresponding quarter last year, while 110 vacancies were observed in water supply, sewage treatment, waste management and remediation activities, up from 79.

In real estate management, job vacancies skyrocketed to 145 compared to just 13 in the first quarter of 2024.
