Electricity authority sets up operations centre for communities affected by wildfire

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has set up an operations centre outside Vasa Koilaniou community to provide assistance to all communities affected by the wildfires in the mountain region of Limassol.

EAC Spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou told the Cyprus News Agency that staff stands ready to repair the damage caused by the raging fires. She stressed that under no circumstances should citizens approach exposed cables, nor should they attempt to repair devices that appear to have been damaged and urged them to seek assistance from EAC staff.

Papadopoulou said that electricity was provided with mobile generators in seven communities and that EAC staff with more than 150 people are visiting the affected areas to record the damage.

EAC has so far recorded 300 burnt high-voltage poles, 100 burnt low-voltage poles, 50 burnt transformers and one distribution substation.

Paphos district, she added, is not faced with a supply problem because of the fires.
