Cyprus' business community steps up as wildfires ravage the island
07:04 - 25 July 2025

The Cypriot business community has stepped up and proven its commitment to social responsibility, responding rapidly and decisively to the catastrophic wildfire that broke out in the mountainous region of Limassol on 23 July, claiming the lives of two citizens, destroying property, and leaving behind incalculable devastation.
The devastating fire triggered a swift response by numerous companies and organisations. Each, in its own way, became an active participant in tackling the unfolding crisis, supporting not only the frontline firefighting efforts but also offering relief to those affected by the destruction.

The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), called on members to contribute financially or otherwise to support those affected by the wildfires, in a circular.
XM
As far as the local business community is concerned, XM has pledged €4m to support the affected areas and their residents. This financial aid is intended to address urgent frontline needs as well as long-term recovery efforts.
At the same time, XM is initiating wildfire prevention actions aimed at strengthening the country’s preparedness and resilience, and at practically preventing future disasters. These measures will be implemented in collaboration with the relevant partners.
Petrolina
The Cypriot petroleum company provided free fuel for all aerial and ground firefighting vehicles involved in suppression efforts. The company also supported volunteer initiatives, such as the KitasWeather firefighting team and the SupportCY network, recognising their essential role in fire response operations.

Cyprus Hotel Association
Hotel owners, members of CHA, offered free accommodation across all districts to wildfire victims, placing their facilities at the disposal of authorities to shelter those in need.

TechIsland
The association of tech companies launched a donation drive among its member companies, aiming to raise funds for the communities impacted by the fires, according to InBusinessNews sources. The funds will be allocated at a later stage, in consultation with authorities and based on specific needs.

Ygia Group
Ygia Group announced a comprehensive five-part assistance plan for victims, including: free accommodation at EDEN facilities in Tersefanou; free meals and medical care at Ygia and EDEN centres; free ambulance transport from affected areas; dispatch of medical teams to the front lines; and delivery of medical supplies for first aid in fire-stricken communities.

BoConcept Cyprus
BoConcept Cyprus committed to donating emergency furniture — including beds and basic essentials — prioritising families with elderly individuals and children.

IC Markets EU, in cooperation with AEL Limassol
IC Markets EU, in cooperation with AEL Limassol, launched a campaign to collect essential goods for affected families. They also partnered with Cowin to create a digital fundraising platform that allows individuals and organisations across Cyprus to make financial contributions with ease.

Alphamega Hypermarkets
From the very night the wildfire began, Alphamega in Trimiklini was mobilised, staying open late to provide water, cold drinks, snacks, and other necessities to aid firefighting operations. The store was also placed at the disposal of the authorities as an emergency shelter for displaced residents.

MAS Supermarket
MAS Supermarket, also in Trimiklini, made a similar contribution, providing supplies to both emergency personnel and affected residents.

A broader spirit of support
It’s important to note that the companies mentioned above are those whose actions were either publicly announced or independently confirmed by InBusinessNews. It is very likely that many other businesses and organisations have also stepped forward — and continue to do so — in support of this collective effort.
What is certain is that the tragedy unfolding in Limassol has once again demonstrated — tragically, under the worst circumstances — that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Cyprus’ business sector is not just a theoretical concept, but a genuine, practised commitment.
