Οrange warning for extreme temperatures in effect on Thursday

An orange warning of the Department of Meteorology for extreme maximum temperature will be in effect on Thursday, 24 July as the temperature is predicted to rise to 44 degrees Celsius over the inland areas.

According to the warning, the temperature between 11am and 5pm on Thursday is expected to rise to around 44 degrees Celsius inland and to around 34 degrees Celsius over the higher mountainous areas.

The authorities are also battling fires in the districts of Limassol and Paphos that have left at least two people dead and several in hospital, while homes in a number of communities have been destroyed or evacuated.
