Andreas Spyrou on XM becoming Limassol Marathon’s new title sponsor - “We’ve found a partner who shares our ambition”

XM has become the new title sponsor of Limassol Marathon, Cyprus’ largest running event, with the marathon’s Business Development Director, Andreas Spyrou, telling CBN that the two sides share the same ambition: to elevate the XM Limassol Marathon into one of Europe’s premier running events and to transform it into a powerful platform for social impact.

From now on, the event will be called “XM Limassol Marathon”, marking the start of a strategic collaboration with one of the biggest global providers of financial services.

The partnership agreement was signed recently during an event attended by representatives from XM and the Limassol Marathon organisers.

“In XM, we’ve found a partner who shares our ambition—not only to elevate the XM Limassol Marathon into one of Europe’s premier running events, but also to transform it into a powerful platform for social impact,” said Spyrou. “Our shared vision is grounded in the values of charity, inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability. By leveraging the strong brand of the XM Limassol Marathon and the unique advantages of our city—a flat and fast course, mild weather, and modern infrastructure—we are confident that Limassol and Cyprus can emerge as leading destinations for sports tourism in Europe”.

Strategic aim to attract global partners

The new collaboration, according to those involved, reflects the strategic aim of the event to attract global partners and enhance its international character. They add that through this partnership, new opportunities are created for runner experience, technological and innovative advancement, social contribution, and environmental sustainability.

During the signing event, Stavri Morti, co-CEO of XM, stated: "The XM Limassol Marathon reflects values aligned with ours: excellence and long-term value through high-level organisation, and social contribution through initiatives that promote health, active participation, and the collective good. Preparing for an endurance race requires strategy, planning, and execution — the same qualities essential in business. That’s another reason why we feel so close to this event."

The Chairman of the Limassol Marathon Board, Spyros Spyrou, said the partnership with XM opens new horizons for the Limassol Marathon. "XM is a leader in corporate social responsibility and a passionate ally in our mission," he said. "Our goal is for the Limassol Marathon to not only promote sports but also raise the international profile of Limassol, support volunteerism, inclusivity, and environmental awareness. With XM, we aspire to raise the bar even further, offering runners a stronger experience and delivering even more to society."

The Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeftis

Meanwhile, Mayor of Limassol Yiannis Armeftis said he firmly believes that both the event and its accompanying partnership can elevate the city's profile even further. “This effort has my full support, along with the blessings of the Limassol Municipal Council,” said Armeftis. “As a Municipality, we are here to facilitate every initiative aimed at benefiting and promoting our city. In such flagship events, neither the Mayor nor the wider local community can be absent. We are present — with all our heart and strength."

The XM Limassol Marathon will be taking place on 21–22 March 2026. For more information, visit the official website here
