A.F.I.S. Cyprus distributes free ice cream in exchange for empty batteries
Press Release 08:51 - 03 June 2025

For another year, A.F.I.S. Cyprus and the Municipality Aglandjia joined forces to strengthen children's environmental awareness through the 'Separate and Win' action.
On Saturday, 31 May, 2025, on the occasion of International Children's Day on 1 June, two traditional ice cream trucks toured the neighbourhoods of Aglandjia, offering free ice cream to every child who recycled an empty battery in A.F.I.S.'s special bins.
Communication and visibility of the action were enhanced through the use of GPS technology, so that residents could locate, in real time, where each ice cream truck was located and organise their outing with their children to recycle their empty batteries and enjoy their ice cream at the same time.
The event culminated at the Spyros Kyprianou Park in Aglandjia, where the ice cream truck parked for the conclusion of the action. There, attendees had the opportunity to visit the A.F.I.S. Cyprus booth, where gifts were offered to children and useful information on the benefits of battery recycling was provided.
Since its first year, the 'Separate and Win' campaign has received a warm response from the local community. This year, in just a few hours, over 60 kilos of empty batteries were collected, which will be taken to appropriate recycling units, protecting the environment from the various toxic substances they contain.
A.F.I.S. Cyprus and Aglandjia Municipality have renewed their appointment for next year, for even more initiatives with the common goal of shaping a society with a strong environmental awareness and a sustainable recycling culture.
