Report of Investigating Committee on Takata airbags to be ready by 12 July

The final report of the Investigating Committee on the handling of vehicle recalls, appointed in March by the Attorney General, George Savvides, after the incidents related to defective Takata airbags, will be ready by 12 July at the latest, the Chairman of the Committee Michalakis Christodoulou has said.

The Committee’s sessions concluded on Monday, 2 June with the testimony of the Director of the Traffic Department of the Police Headquarters, Haris Evripidou.

Speaking after the end of the session, Christodoulou said that the findings of the Committee will be ready by 12 July at the latest.

Addressing the parents of two victims who were present at the session, he offered an apology because, as he said, “the State failed to ensure their safety”.

“If and when responsibilities are identified, they will be attributed within the framework of the powers that this Committee has," he underlined.

In statements to reporters, the parents of the two young people who lost their lives due to defective Takata airbags expressed their gratitude to the Investigative Committee for its work, as well as their belief that the Committee's findings will be a "catalyst."
