Cyprus to host 2031 Games of the Small States of Europe

Cyprus will host the 2031 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) following a unanimous decision by the General Assembly of the Games.

According to an announcement by the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC), the General Assembly and Technical Committees of the GSSE concluded their meetings on May 9 in Monaco, with the participation of National Olympic Committees from member countries.

A key outcome of the Assembly was the awarding of the 2031 Games to Cyprus, marking a significant development for the country’s sporting sector.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee was represented by its President, George Chrysostomou, Treasurer Yiannos Fotiou, and Administrative Officer Giorgos Panagidis, who is also a member of the Technical Committee.

COC President George Chrysostomou thanked Assembly members for their trust and pledged to work hard in close cooperation with the state, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, municipal authorities, sports federations, the Cyprus Sports Organisation, and volunteers to ensure a successful event at all levels.

Discussions during the meetings also covered preparations for upcoming editions of the Games, scheduled to take place in Monaco in 2027 and Luxembourg in 2029, as well as broader issues related to the development and evolution of the GSSE.

Members of the General Assembly were given a tour of the Prince’s Palace, followed by an official dinner hosted in their honour by Prince Albert II of Monaco.

During a conversation with COC President George Chrysostomou, Prince Albert II conveyed his warm regards to Cyprus and the Cyprus Olympic Committee family, and expressed his intention to attend the 2031 Games.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee, the announcement concludes, continues to play an active role within the GSSE framework, contributing meaningfully to the planning and strengthening of the institution.
