GOLD New Issue: The Limassol Issue

In the new issue of GOLD (available here), on newsstands from Sunday, 15 June, we feature Limassol, a place that has become synonymous with transformation, ambition and dynamism.

Since the turn of the 21st century, Limassol has undergone a profound evolution. Once a quiet coastal town, it now stands as a thriving regional hub for commerce, shipping, tourism and technology. Today, it is indisputably the beating heart of Cyprus’ economic activity – pulsing with entrepreneurial spirit and shaped by international influence. President Nikos Christodoulides recently described Limassol as “proof that Cyprus can look to the future with optimism” and called it “the soul of economic progress and development.” Speaking at a presentation of the Government’s comprehensive development strategy for the district, he referred to projects and interventions worth more than €660 million. These investments aim not only to reinforce the city’s infrastructure but to unlock its long-term potential. Still, this rapid ascent has brought significant challenges. While Limassol’s economy is robust, the city still lacks some of the defining features of truly global capitals, which ensure that prosperity is shared across communities. In many ways, Limassol has already become a great city but can it become a truly exceptional one – a place that people not only work in but dream of calling home? A place to raise families, build lives and return to again and again? To reach that stage, it seems that Limassol needs to transition from a city of opportunity to one of vision. In this cover story, industry professionals share their perspective on the current landscape of their particular sectors and the future they envision, while millennial entrepreneurs and expatriates who have chosen Limassol as the base for their ventures share their own unique views. Through them, we gain a glimpse of the city’s many layers and are offered a chance to consider what lies ahead.
