Government employment increases by 0.9% in May

Government employment increased by 479 persons (0.9%) in May 2025 in comparison to the corresponding month of 2024 and reached 55,305 persons, according to CySTAT.

As CySTAT reported, employment in the Civil Service and in the Educational Service increased by 0.1% and 3.3% respectively, whereas in Security Forces it decreased by 0.8%.

Compared to May 2024, the main increase is observed in the number of employees with contracts of definite duration (7.2%), with the highest percentage change for this category observed in the Civil Service (15.8%), it adds.

“The main decrease is observed in the number of employees with contracts of indefinite duration (-7.1%), with the largest percentage decrease for this category observed in the Educational Service (-20.6%)”, it said.

For the period January-May 2025 the average total government employment increased by 0.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2024, it said.
