Cyprus University of Technology launches €300m+ expansion plan in Limassol

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has unveiled an ambitious development plan worth over €300 million, aiming to transform its infrastructure and academic offering by 2030, according to Rector Professor Panayiotis Zaphiris.

During a presentation in Limassol, Zaphiris outlined CUT’s strategic roadmap focused on five pillars: infrastructure, academic expansion, internationalisation, research & innovation, and administrative strengthening.

Key projects through 2030:

  • Student Halls (€56.3m): The largest in CUT’s history, delivering 500 beds by 2026–2027.
  • Engineering School & Eratosthenes Centre (€12m): Launching in 2025.
  • Technology Park & Innovation Hub: To foster links between academia and industry.
  • Public-Private Partnerships (€150m): To build new faculties and research centres.
  • Health Sciences Campus: At the former Limassol Hospital, including a model primary care center.
  • Other expansions: Media, Fine Arts, Geosciences, and Business Schools, with multiple sites restored or built.

The projects are supported by state funds and a €125m loan from the European Investment Bank.

New academic programmes

Starting 2024–2025, CUT will launch new degrees in Shipping, Occupational Therapy, and Data Science—responding to job market demand and attracting high student interest.

Global outlook & partnerships

Zaphiris emphasised CUT’s growing international role through its leadership in the EUt+ University Alliance, with the university set to chair the alliance in late 2025. CUT also plans to launch English-taught programmes and expand partnerships with universities in China and across Europe.

A national growth engine

CUT’s leadership stressed the university’s evolving role as a driver of educational, social, and economic growth for Limassol and Cyprus. Vice President of Board Andreas Karakatsanis noted that CUT is growing in programmes, student numbers, global rankings, and recognition as a reliable, outward-looking, and dynamic institution.
