Cyprus and Egypt launch strategic dialogue on defence and security

The Defence Ministers of Cyprus and Egypt, Vasilis Palmas and Abdel-Meguid Saqr, announced the launch of a strategic dialogue aimed at further deepening the two countries' collaboration, following a meeting in Cairo.
The talks focused on regional challenges, the Cyprus issue, and the launch of a strategic dialogue aimed at further deepening their collaboration.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence, the meeting reaffirmed the excellent relations between Cyprus and Egypt in all areas, as well as the outstanding cooperation between the two ministries in defence and security.
The two Ministers discussed international and regional developments, security challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, and the impact of ongoing conflicts in the region.
Palmas emphasised the importance that the Republic of Cyprus places on its relations with Egypt, as well as the contribution of both countries to maintaining stability in the broader region. He also praised Egypt’s role as a strategic partner in promoting peace, security, and cooperation.
He further briefed his Egyptian counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the efforts being made by the President of the Republic, in coordination with the international community, to resume negotiations based on the agreed framework and principles of international law.
For his part, General Abdel-Meguid Saqr referred to the security challenges facing Egypt and the strategic importance his country places on establishing defence partnerships, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
After reviewing specific aspects of bilateral cooperation, both sides confirmed their commitment to further strengthening it through joint military exercises, training programs, and knowledge exchange.
Finally, it was agreed to launch a strategic dialogue between the two ministries, aimed at deepening cooperation in defence and security matters, as well as in search and rescue operations.
