New European AMLA authority reshapes compliance landscape
09:36 - 07 May 2025

The European Union is entering a new era of supervision in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. With the creation of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA), the EU lays the foundation for a unified and more effective oversight mechanism, designed to enhance consistency and correct application of AML rules across all Member States.
AMLA will operate as a decentralised EU agency, with a mission to coordinate national authorities and implement a harmonised supervisory approach across the Union. The goal is twofold: to transform AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering / Countering the Financing of Terrorism) supervision and to strengthen cooperation between national Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs).
What this means for the private sector
What are the implications of this development for businesses? What role will AMLA play in direct supervision of financial institutions and other obliged entities? And how will it impact corporate compliance strategies?
These questions will be addressed during the 11th International Compliance Forum by Melissa van den Broek, Senior Manager, Forensic Integrity & Compliance, KPMG Advisory, Netherlands. Her talk, titled “All Eyes on AMLA: The Implications of AMLA’s Function and Agenda for the Private Sector”, will be held on May 22 2025 and will focus on the direct and indirect consequences of AMLA's operations for the private sector.
