Commissioner for Gender Equality in NYC for 69th session of CSW69

Commissioner for Gender Equality, Josie Christodoulou, is in New York to represent the Republic of Cyprus at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) will be held from 10 to 21 March, 2025, under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations.

A press release by the Commissioner's Office said this year's conference marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action ("Beijing +30") and will address the assessment of current challenges affecting the implementation of the Platform for Action, the achievement of gender equality, and women empowerment.

Christodoulou will attend the opening of the conference on Monday, 10 March while on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 and 12 March she will participate in events organised on the sidelines.

She will address an event co-organised by Cyprus, Tajikistan, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) titled "Connecting the Dots: Human Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Girls" and at an event titled "30 Years Beijing: Effective Women’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship as Drivers of Change," co-organised by Albania, Andorra, Greece, Cyprus, AFAMMER, and UNWOMEN.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Commissioner will also have a series of bilateral meetings, among others, with officials from the governments of European and Middle Eastern countries, and will meet with representatives of the Cypriot community.
