President praises The English School for organising and hosting MEDIMUN

The English School received recognition from the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, for organising and hosting the Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDIMUN).

Tailored for adolescents, MEDIMUN brings together over 350 students from 30 schools annually, where they assume the roles of delegates representing United Nations member countries in a simulated environment.

This year’s conference theme was “Adapting to Today’s Tomorrow: Diplomacy in a Divided World.” The President of the Republic welcomed the opening of the three-day anniversary session, expressing his gratitude and that of the state to The English School and the organisers.

“An Example of the Values of Multilateralism and Diplomacy”

Speaking about the conference, Nikos Christodoulides stated that since its founding, MEDIMUN has evolved into one of the most recognised conferences in the Mediterranean region, providing an exciting and dynamic simulation of the United Nations.

He emphasised that "By promoting discussion and providing hands-on experience in international diplomacy, MEDIMUN serves as an example of the values of multilateralism and diplomacy, transnational dialogue, and intercultural encounters. At the same time, it positions Cyprus at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and Asia, acting as a bridge between different perspectives, expectations, needs, and aspirations."

He continued, noting that "MEDIMUN strengthens our shared commitment to global cooperation, which has become essential in an era of deep transformations and serious challenges."

A Leading Educational Conference in Cyprus

Established by The English School in 2005, the Mediterranean Model United Nations has flourished and expanded over the last twenty years, emerging as one of the leading educational conferences in Cyprus. It is the largest and longest-running MUN conference in the Mediterranean region, providing students aged 15 to 19 with a unique opportunity to broaden their perspectives, enhance their understanding, and develop views on complex global matters.

MEDIMUN is organised and run voluntarily by students and teachers who dedicate their time and effort to its success.

Through initiatives like MEDIMUN, The English School remains committed to educational excellence for all, as the conference welcomes students from both public and private schools across Cyprus.
