Industrial production drops by 4.9% in November

The Industrial Production Index reached 102.7 units (base 2021=100) in November 2024, recording a decrease of 4.9% compared to November 2023, according to Cystat. 

A notable decrease of 44.2% was recorded in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products. It is noted that a strike in the ready-mix concrete sector took place from the beginning of November to the beginning of the following month. 

The manufacturing sector registered a decrease of 6.1% compared to November 2023. A decrease was also observed in the sector of mining and quarrying (23.6%). On the other side, a positive change was observed in the sectors of water supply and materials recovery (11.4%) and electricity supply (0.7%).

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to November 2023 were observed in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (13.7%), rubber and plastic products (7.5%) and electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (6.9%).

The most important negative changes were observed in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (44.2%), paper and paper products and printing (18%) and furniture and repair/installation of machinery and equipment (14.4%).

For the period January – November 2024, the index recorded an increase of 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Comparing the rates of change for the period January – November 2024 against the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant positive changes were observed in water collection, treatment and supply (22.8%), the manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (12.2%), the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (9.9%), materials recovery (8.6%) and mining and quarrying (8%).

The most important activities where negative changes in production were registered were those relating to the manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing (11.7%), the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (4.9%) and the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (4.5%).
