Alexandros Josephides appointed Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously decided to appoint its current Deputy Director General, Alexandros Josephides, as the Chamber’s next Director General. Josephides will succeed Thomas A. Kazakos, who will assume duties as the new Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping in London, starting on 1 April 2025.

Having completed 30 years of productive service at the Chamber, Josephides holds a Bachelor's as well as Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career as a Mechanical Engineer in 1986, working in the United States, Cyprus, and Libya. In 1992, he joined the Cyprus Register of Shipping, where he was trained as a ship inspector. In 2015, following a proposal submitted to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) by the Cyprus Shipping Administration, he was appointed by the IMO as the "Maritime Goodwill Ambassador" for Cyprus, with the role of promoting maritime and shipping careers among young people—a title he continues to hold.

"I am deeply honoured by the trust of the Board of Directors to serve as the next Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber,” Josephides said in a statement. “As I complete 30 years of service at the Chamber, I am committed to building on the significant work already accomplished, actively promoting the interests of Cyprus Shipping, and maintaining the vital role of our sector on the global stage. I look forward to continuing close collaboration with the Board, our Members, and Partners to tackle challenges and seize the opportunities ahead."

The Shipping Chamber congratulated Josephides and wished him every success in the demanding role he is undertaking.
