US business leaders and executives showed a strong interest in becoming active in Cyprus, at a working lunch with President Nikos Christodoulides during his visit to New York.

In statements to the press, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said: “The President of the Republic attended a working lunch with members of the USA’s business community. The aim of the working lunch was to discuss ways of attracting quality investment to our country.”

He added, “On the part of the business community members, they acknowledged that our country’s international image has improved significantly lately, particularly in the USA, as a result of the excellent bilateral relations between Cyprus nad the USA, but also the Treaties that have been signed in the recent past”.

The members of the business community went on to show a real interest in a series of sectors, said Letymbiotis, including energy, shipping, tourism, financial services, services and infrastructure, “and they agreed to keep in close cooperation and communication in the immediate future”.

On his part, President Christoulides briefed the entrepreneurs on the progress Cyprus is making with hits reform programme, and particularly the digitisation effort that is being promoted on the island in its bid to facilitate and attract more quality investments and ensure their implementation.

“The digitisation of basic state services and processes will be a catalyst in terms of attracting these investments and facilitating investors in our country," Letymbiotis concluded.
