US and Cyprus deepen defence cooperation during Third Security Dialogue

Ways to deepen cooperation on security and enhance stability in the wider region were discussed in Nicosia during the 3rd Defence and Security Dialogue between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States.

According to a written statement from the Cypriot Ministry of Defence, the US delegation, led by Director for Europe and NATO Affairs Alton Buland, included representatives from the US European Command, the New Jersey National Guard, and the US Embassy in Cyprus. The Cypriot delegation was led by Brigadier General Charis Georgiou, Director of the Defense Minister's Office, and included officials from the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard General Staff.

The two delegations on 12 September reviewed the progress made in their defence cooperation, highlighting key advancements in the International Military Education and Training (IMET) Program, joint exercises, and training programs, as well as the successful completion of Cyprus' first year in the State Partnership Program.

They also explored further ways to enhance bilateral security cooperation in line with the goals outlined in the Bilateral Defence Cooperation Roadmap, which was signed in Cyprus on 9 September, 2024.
