Situation in the Middle East puts Cyprus air connectivity stakeholders on alert

The Government is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and "everyone is on alert", the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, has said.

Speaking to CNA and responding to a question about the flights connecting Cyprus with Israel, the Minister said that the air "connectivity of Cyprus with Israel is maintained. Some airlines have chosen to temporarily stop their flight schedule to Tel Aviv, but there are also companies that are continuing their flights as normal."

He added that "the Government is monitoring the situation as it develops in the region, everyone is on alert and, depending on the developments, the public will be informed."

Hermes Airports sources are reported to have told CNA that the cancellations of scheduled flights of airlines to Tel Aviv have been balanced out by additional flights by companies that are continuing their flight schedule.

So far, two European airlines, Aegean and Wizz Air, have temporarily suspended their flights from Larnaca to Tel Aviv until 11 August.

The remainder of the airlines, both the Israeli ones and those based in Cyprus that fly to Tel Aviv, have some cancellations on their scheduled flights, however, the flight schedule is balanced out, as CNA was infomed, by some additional flights by other companies.

As for the flights to Beirut, they do not seem to be affected by the situation in the region at the moment.

It is noted that Hermes Airports is monitoring the situation.
