Cypriots’ favourite travel destinations - From Greece and the UK to the USA and Italy

Trips abroad are in full swing for Cypriots mid-summer. While the airports are buzzing with tourists visiting the island, Cypriots and residents of Cyprus are seeking mini-escapes to other countries, mainly in Europe.

CySTAT figures indicate that the purpose of travel of Cypriot residents in June 2024 was mainly holidays taking up a percentage of 64.6%, with business reasons occupying a percentage of 24.2%, studies a percentage of 10.1% and other reasons a percentage of 1.1%.

Travel in June this year saw a slight year-on-year decrease of 1.3%, reaching 136,739 compared to 138,588 last June.

Stable preference for Greece and the United Kingdom
By far the most popular travel destination remains Greece (51,260), occupying a percentage of 37.5% of the total trips.

Cypriots' trips to the United Kingdom took a share of 11.9% (16,311), while Italian cities also proved to be particularly popular travel destinations (6,641).

Cypriot residents returning home from overseas trips this June amounted to 4,822 from Germany and 4,360 from France, with Russia (3,484), the Netherlands (3,126) and Bulgaria (2,965) following.

In addition to EU member countries, Cypriots in June showed a preference to visit the United Arab Emirates (2,877), while returns from Poland (2,733) and Romania (2,729) were noticeable.

Cypriots also made transatlantic journeys, reaching as far as the United States of America (2,264).
