Casino Group’s Nicolas Richard reveals the retail and e-grocery megatrends

The consumers of tomorrow will show an increased preference for e-grocery, however, they will also continue to visit physical stores, according to Nicolas Richard, International Development Director, Casino Group.

Presenting the megatrends of the Industry, at 21st Cyprus Grocery Retail Conference through a video call, Richard spoke of major changes in industries that also impact the retail trade sector, presenting the results of supporting research.

The first trend is that retail will continue to improve and record growth of 5% until 2030. The second trend is the fact that the consumer is going through a stage of transformation as their consumer priorities are now different from what they had been until today.

The third trend noted is of course the launch of e-grocery. According to the research Richard presented, in 2030 the consumer will continue to visit the physical store several times a week, but will buy their fresh food online. While in 2022 e-grocery recorded profits between 4-11%, in 2030 it will range from 11%-26%.

The consumer will also show a particular preference for last mile delivery.

The fourth trend is the wider application of technology within the consumer experience. "Today's retailer must be able to imagine the consumer journey of the future," he said, warning that "only then will they continue to attract customers."

The 21st Cyprus Grocery Retail Conference was presented by Alphamega Hypermarkets.
