European Commission President to visit Cyprus on 7 and 8 March

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will visit the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, in the coastal town of Larnaca on 8 March, European Commission Chief Spokesperson Eric Mamer has said.

Mamer announced that von der Leyen will be in Cyprus from the evening of 7 March and on 8 March will have also have a meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia.

Von der Leyen will also travel to the port of Larnaca where she will visit the Search and Rescue Centre, "in the framework of the opening of a maritime humanitarian corridor to Gaza."

A press conference will follow.

The President of the European Commission will be in Bucharest prior to her visit to Cyprus, to attend the meeting of the European People's Party. On 7 March her candidacy on behalf of the party for a second term in the Presidency of the Commission will be officially ratified.
