Opportunity to become Ambassador for a Day for Cypriot women aged 18-35

For the third year in a row, EU female-led foreign missions in Cyprus bring to the women living in Cyprus the unique opportunity to work with a female diplomat for a whole day.

According to a press release from the Netherlands Embassy in Nicosia, the initiative will take place during the first week of March, from the 4th to the 11th. During the initiative each selected participant will get one day on which to carry out their internship.

As noted, the initiative aims "to motivate women to actively participate in politics, current affairs, and international relations, while becoming more involved in positive societal changes for gender equality" and it is organised in the light of the International Women's Rights Day, on March 8, and is open to all women living in Cyprus, aged 18-35.

To apply, participants are invited to share a one-minute long video stating what motivates them to participate, along with their contact information in a direct message to the initiative's social media page on FaceBook.

"Ambassador in Cyprus for a day" is organised and realised by the Embassy of Netherlands, Ambassade de France, Embassy of Austria, German Embassy, the Embassy of Italy, Embassy of Portugal, Hungary Embassy and the European Commission, all female-led and active in endorsing gender equality in politics, the work place, and every aspect of everyday life.

Selected participants will get to work closely with a female Ambassador for a whole day, thus learning more about diplomacy, international relations and current affairs.

The Embassies are prompted to raise awareness in Cyprus and among their Missions, following careful study of the available statistical data. As noted, according to UN Women, only 26.5% of parliamentarians in single or lower houses worldwide are women, whereas in Cyprus they are only 14.2% (data collected on February 2023). Also according to the calculations of UN Women, at the current rate of progress, gender parity in national legislative bodies (worldwide) will not be achieved before 2063.

Submissions are open until the 25 February, while the selected participants will be announced on the dedicated social media pages on the 26th. Those interested can contact the organisers directly on the initiative's social media pages (FaceBook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and can find  the full set of instructions and more information on  https://www.facebook.com/ambassadorincyforaday.
