Cyprus-Greece-Jordan sign water resources, education and investments MoU

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides had a trilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace with King Abdullah II of Jordan and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece. 

The leaders had a working lunch on 27 November, in the context of the 4th Trilateral Summit between Cyprus - Greece - Jordan, after which memoranda of understanding in the fields of Water Resources, Education and Investments were signed by the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the three countries. Also, a bilateral memorandum for cooperation in the field of small and medium enterprises was signed between Cyprus and Jordan.

The trilateral followed the 2nd Cyprus - Greece Intergovernmental summit earlier on 27 November.

In a private trilateral meeting with King Abdullah and the Prime Minister, President Christodoulides described today’s consultations as very important meeting, saying that they have been long overdue, as the last trilateral meeting was held in 2021, a presidency press release said.

He said that he looked forward to their discussions on how to deepen their cooperation, to exchange views on the situation in the Middle East.

“Yesterday (on 26 November) we had a positive development with the agreement between Israel and Lebanon. We need to see they way forward considering that we have a new administration in the US,” President Christodoulides noted.

He also said that issues related to EU-Jordan relations will be discussed, noting that Greece and Cyprus are strong supporters of upgrading this relationship to a strategic one.

The private meeting was followed by the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the three countries and expanded consultations of their delegations.

The Memoranda signed by the Foreign Ministers of the three countries are a Tripartite MoU for cooperation in the field of Water Resources, a Tripartite MoU for cooperation in the field of Education, particularly in the fields of Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development and a Tripartite MoU for cooperation in the field of Investments with the aim of strengthening economic and trade ties.

Following the private meeting between the President of the Republic and the King of Jordan, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries signed, in the presence of the leaders, a Bilateral Memorandum for cooperation in the field of Small and Medium Enterprises.
