A total of 78% of mobile connections are unlimited packages, survey shows

A survey conducted by the Office of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation (OCECPR) showed that 78% of mobile phone connections are a monthly package with unlimited minutes, sms and data.

According to the survey findings, 99% of respondents are mobile phone users. Of these, 45% have a landline phone, 87% have a fixed internet connection at home and 46% have a pay-TV.

Regarding the type of mobile connection, 78% said they have a monthly package with unlimited minutes, sms and data, 14% choose a monthly package with specific minutes, sms and data, 5% have a simple monthly subscription and only 4% have a prepaid connection.

Among mobile users who do not have an unlimited talk plan (23%), around half (53%) are concerned about the cost of local calls from their mobile phone.

Moreover, 85% of users with mobile broadband access answer calls via apps, believing that the cost is low or non-existent due to unlimited data. This percentage is reduced among subscribers who have a limited number of minutes, sms and data with only 57% stating that they answer calls via apps.

When asked about their most popular web browsing activities, 94% said they search for information, 93% read their email, 93% send and receive messages through apps and 91% use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.

The structured questionnaire was prepared by the Market Observatory team of OCECPR, with a sample of 1,002 respondents (602 urban areas and 400 rural areas) and was conducted during the period 14 May - 28 May 2024.
