Nicosia hosting 2nd Cyprus-Greece Summit, Trilateral Summit with Jordan

Nicosia is to host the second Intergovernmental Summit between Cyprus and Greece, as well as the Cyprus-Greece-Jordan Trilateral Summit on 26 November.

According to a statement by the Presidency, the second Intergovernmental Summit between the Governments of Cyprus and Greece will take place at the Presidential Palace on the morning of 26 November, headed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of Ministers of the two Governments.

Later, at noon, the Cyprus-Greece-Jordan Trilateral Summit will follow - the fourth one, following the one held in Athens in July 2021 - with the participation of President Christodoulides, King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Prime Minister of Greece.

According to the announcement, before the Intergovernmental Summit, the leaders of Cyprus and Greece will attend and address the 2nd Business Conference organised in Nicosia with the support of the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.

Later on, President Christodoulides and Prime Minister Mitsotakis will participate in the Intergovernmental Summit, and make statements to the media.

The Intergovernmental Summit is expected to address, among other things, the Cyprus issue, digital transition, cooperation on issues of labour and social policy, education, health, shipping, culture and defence, it added.

Within the framework of the Summit, bilateral meetings will be held between Cypriot Ministers and their Greek counterparts, it also said.

The Trilateral Summit is to take place at noon at the Presidential Palace, in the form of a working lunch which will follow the private meeting among the three leaders, another statement by the Presidency said.

During the proceedings of the Trilateral Summit there will be a review of the implementation of the trilateral cooperation to date on various issues that have been addressed by the trilateral mechanism in  previous meetings, such as, among many other things, the creation of a Permanent Secretariat for the coordination of the trilateral mechanisms, based in Cyprus, cooperation on firefighting issues with the creation of a regional centre based in Cyprus, as well as cooperation on issues concerning education and investments, it also said.

Regional developments, the Cyprus problem, and EU-Jordan relations will also be among the issues to be discussed at the Summit, it adds, noting that the three countries will also sign Memoranda of Understanding in the fields of education, water management and investments.
