Chief scientist holds contacts in Japan to expand collaborations

Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Skourides held a series of contacts in Japan to expand collaborations. During his contacts in Japan, he presented the significant progress of Cyprus' Research and Innovation ecosystem in recent years.
According to an official press release, Skourides participated in a discussion on 'Towards Transformative Science, Technology and Innovation Policies,' organised as part of the EU-Japan Science Policy Forum 2024, in Kyoto, Japan. The event was jointly organised by the Ambassador of the European Commission in Japan, Jean-Eric Paquet and the President of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Kazuhito Hashimoto.
The discussion was attended by senior EU and Japanese Government officials, including Ueyama Takahiro, Adviser to the Japanese Prime Minister on Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as the Science Ministers of Lithuania, Dr Justas Nugaras, of Slovenia, Igor Papic, of Bulgaria Nikolay Vitanov, of Finland Sari Multala and of the Republic of Korea Yoo Sang-im. They were also attended by the CEO of Sony Research, Hiroaki Kitano, Munir Eldesouki, President of KCAST Saudi Arabia, and Maria Chiarra Carozza, President of the Italian Research Council.
During the discussion, the Chief Scientist exchanged views on issues related to science and technology policy-making with a view to increasing the impact on society. He also had a meeting with the Chief Scientist of Quebec in Canada, Remi Quirion.
On the sidelines of the visit to Japan, the Chief Scientist accompanied the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodemos Damianou, in meetings with high-ranking officials of the Japanese Government, as well as in a round table discussion between Ministers. He also had a series of meetings with representatives of universities, research institutes and innovative companies.
