President announces government reshuffle

President Nikos Christodoulides has announced a government reshuffle, under the power granted to him by the Constitution.

The following changes have been made:

  • Vasilis Palmas appointed Minister of Defence, replacing Michalis Giorgallas
  • Maria Panagiotou appointed Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, replacing Petros Xenophontos
  • Marios Hartsiotis appointed Minister of Justice and Public Order, replacing Anna Koukkides-Prokopiou
  • Nicodemos Damianou appointed Deputy Minister of Innovation, Research and Digital Policy, replacing Alexis Vafeades
  • Michael Damianos appointed Minister of Health, replacing Popi Nicolaidou Kanari
  • Marilena Raouna appointed Deputy Minister of European Affairs, replacing Andreas Mavroyiannis
  • Panagiotis Palates appointed Commissioner for the Citizen
  • Chalambos Christofinas appointed Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities
  • Antonia Theodosiou appointed Commissioner for the Environment, replacing Maria Panagiotou

The swearing in ceremony for the new government officials will take place on Wednesday, 10 January.

The official announcement relayed the President’s warm thanks to the outgoing ministers for their excellent cooperation.
