Unemployed at an 8-month high in December, but also 13-year low based on seasonal data

The number of registered unemployed in Cyprus rose to an eight-month high at the end of December 2023, while the number of registered unemployed fell to at least a 13-year low, based on seasonally adjusted data, which show the unemployment trend.

According to CySTAT, the unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of December 2023, reached 13,670 persons.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for December 2023 decreased to 11,838 persons in comparison to 11,909 in the previous month.

In comparison with December 2022, a decrease of 2,462 persons or 15.3% was recorded, attributed mainly to the sectors of financial and insurance activities, accommodation and food service activities, trade, construction, as well as to the decrease recorded for newcomers in the labour market.
