Interior Ministry urges public to register in electoral rolls

The Ministry of the Interior, in view of the upcoming elections at the European Parliament and Local Authorities on 9 June 2024, has called on those interested to timely submit their application for registration in the electoral rolls, in order to exercise their voting rights.

A press release issued by the Ministry stated that the deadline for submitting applications is 2 April 2024, after which no new registrations or changes can be made to the electoral rolls.

All citizens of the Republic aged 18 and above, with their usual residence in Cyprus, as well as citizens of other European Union member states residing in Cyprus and registered in the relevant electoral rolls, have the right to vote in the elections.

Individuals who will turn 18 years old by 9 June 2024, the election date, have the right to register in the electoral rolls. This includes those born on or before 9 June 2006. In this case, the application must be submitted in advance and, in any case, no later than 2 April 2024.

For citizens up to the age of 25, applications can be submitted through the internet, using the elections website at elections.gov.cy.

Applications in printed form can be submitted at the local offices of the District Administrations, Citizens' Service Centers (KEP), and Citizens' Centers (KE.PO.) - Cyprus Post Offices. Application forms can be obtained from these locations, as well as from the Election Service of the Ministry of Interior and the elections website.

The Ministry of Interior also announced that polling stations will operate abroad, specifically in Greece, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, for voters who are already registered in the electoral roll or will register by 2 April 2024.

To facilitate the operation of polling stations abroad, a special electoral roll is prepared, transferring the details of registered voters from the permanent electoral roll of Cyprus, based on a declaration submitted by interested parties. According to the existing electoral legislation, polling stations abroad can operate only in cities where the number of voters submitting the relevant declaration exceeds 50.

For this purpose, holders of an election booklet, who wish to exercise their voting right abroad can submit a declaration no later than 2 April 2024.

The declaration can be submitted either electronically on the elections website at elections.gov.cy or in printed form by duly completing the relevant form.

The printed form can be submitted to the Embassies/Consulates of the Republic abroad, local offices of the District Administrations, Citizens' Service Centers (KEP), Citizens' Centers (KE.PO.) of Cyprus Post Offices, and the Election Service of the Ministry of Interior. The form is available on the website elections.gov.cy or at the aforementioned locations.
