Miltos Michaelas officially begins duties as Alpha Bank Cyprus’ new CEO

Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd has announced that Miltos Michaelas has officially become CEO of the Bank, signaling the start of a new chapter in Alpha Bank Group’s presence in Cyprus.

Michaelas’ being appointed as CEO underlines the determination of the Shareholders and the Board of Directors of the Bank for the rapid implementation of the development Business Plan of Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd, an announcement from the Bank noted.

The announcement follows the decisions of the Bank's Board of Directors on 15 December, 2022 and 28 June, 2023 and relevant approvals from the supervisory authorities, it added.

Combined with the Group's new Strategic Plan, which was presented at the recent Investor Day, and the completion of Project Sky, through which Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd’s non-performing exposures index was limited to approximately 5%, the foundations are laid for the provision of modern products and services, the development of business banking and the support of the progress of Cyprus’ society and economy, the announcement continued.

Commenting, Alpha Bank Cyprus' new CEO said, "Thank you to the Alpha Group Bank for the trust shown in me by my assuming the position of CEO of Alpha Bank of Cyprus. Together with our people, with responsibility and extroversion, we will implement the Bank's strategic plan and make it a key partner for Cypriot entrepreneurship and the wider society.”

Miltos Michaelas’ CV

Michaelas graduated from the American Academy in Larnaca and holds a degree in Management & Computer Science from Aston University, as well as an MBA with specialisation in Financial Services from the University of Nottingham.

Starting at Laiki Bank in 1992, he began a long professional career in the financial industry. In October 1999 he left Laiki Bank and worked as Chief Financial Officer of the Petrolina Group until 2001. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2006, he served as General Manager at Laiki Bank in Sydney, Australia. From 2006 to 2013 he served in various roles leading to the position of General Manager of International & Financial Services at Laiki Bank. Between 2013-2016 he served as International Operations Advisor to the Bank of Cyprus, and in 2015 he also took over as Head of the newly established Real Estate Management Unit (REMU) of the Bank. In October 2016, he was appointed Managing Director at Bank of Sydney.
