Cyprus ship registry climbs higher in Paris MoU white list on port state control

The Cypriot registry has made impressive progress, jumping by five places to the 8th spot in the Paris MoU White list on port state control, that represents quality flags with a constantly low ship detention record, Deputy Ministry for Shipping has said.

“This proves that the Cypriot registry observes high quality and safety specifications for ships bearing the Cypriot flag,” the Deputy Ministry noted in a recent press release.

The Deputy Ministry added that the Paris MoU Secretariat in its 56th meeting approved the new performance list for Flag States and Recognized Organisations, which will be enter into force on 1 July.

The ranking is based on the number of ship inspections and detentions carried out in a certain period and the ship safety and quality review.

By climbing to the eighth place, Cyprus is considered as a more quality registry compared to all other open registries, the Deputy Ministry added.

The improvement, the Deputy Ministry noted, reflects the inspection and supervision practises, boosts the quality and credibility of the Cypriot registry and acknowledges the efforts made towards ship safety and quality.

Apart from Cyprus, the Paris MOU White List top ten includes, states with strong and high calibre registries, such Denmark, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Finland, Belgium and the UK.
