Mobile phone users in Cyprus up by 27,924 in second half of 2022

Cyprus recorded an increase of 27,924 in the total number of mobile phone users in the second half of 2022 compared to the first half, according to data released by the Office of the Commissioner for Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation.

According to the data, made public on 31 March, contract subscriptions are up by 0.9%, in relation to the first half of 2022, while packages with unlimited data, voice and SMS make up 43.9% of contract subscriptions.

At the same time, the ratio of the total number of mobile users to the population of the Republic of Cyprus in the 2nd half of 2022 shows an increase of 3.1% compared to the 1st half of 2022, reaching 151.7%.

According to the Office of the Commissioner, the total volume of data for 2022 has increased by 70.1% compared to 2021, due to the new pricing of providers in unlimited packages.

In contrast, the data show that in the second half of 2022 there is a slight drop in total fixed - line connections compared to the first half of the year with total connections falling for the first time below 300,000.

Fiber Optic connections continue to follow an upward trend due to the transition of subscribers to fiber optic networks, which is now the main fixed – line connection with a percentage of 40.1%.

The number of fixed broadband subscribers increased by 8,169 subscribers or 2.4% compared to 2021, while at the same time there’ s a rapid increase in the percentage of subscriptions with speed rate ≥100Mbps which now constitute 54.8% of subscriptions.

Total data volume during Q4 2022 was 0.83 TB with total data volume for 2022 showing an increase of 3.1% over 2021.
