Effort to have better ports is a joint one, Minister of Transport and Deputy Ministers of Tourism and Shipping say

The Ministers responsible for Transport, Shipping and Tourism visited the new DP World Limassol passenger terminal and expressed their determination to work together to resolve any problems and improve services.

Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis, explained that the actions to be taken were parallel to one another, and thus they all visited the area to see the problems firsthand and how actions to improve both the activities in the port, and the impact these activities will have on the rest of the economy, specifically on tourism, ship refuelling, ship management, etc. could be jointly undertaken.

Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis, said that their visit was of particular importance, given the fact that this year they expect the number of cruise ships arriving at the port of Limassol to double. She said that Royal Caribbean will soon open offices in Limassol and has registered a cruise ship in the Cypriot registry, adding that this was a great advertisement while also expressing hope that more ships would be registered at the Cypriot registry.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis said that they are in consultation with the companies currently operating itineraries and the intention is to extend the dialogue with other companies that may be interested, so as to increase the volume of visitors arriving at Cypriot ports, stressing the importance of quality services offered.

The vist took place on Thursday, 23 March.
