Sun Valley: The plans for the new Troodos ski centre (pics)

The new ski centre in the Troodos mountain range area of Sun Valley is expected to become a huge attraction for the sport’s lovers and holidaymakers alike.

The foundation stone was laid recently for the state-of-the-art centre, marking the culmination of a long and tireless campaign by the Cyprus Ski Club, whose president is Dinos Lefkaritis.

The project is co-funded by the government, which will cover €2m, and the Cyprus Ski Club, which will contribute another €1.5m.

Presenting pictures of the plans, InBusinessNews reported on Monday that the new building will span 1,082 square metres and include a ski equipment hire shop, conference room and catering facilities.

The modern and elegant building facilities will offer upgraded services that will be fully accessible to Persons with Disabilities (PWD). The project is expected to give the Troodos mountains and the local skiing scene a new lease of life, while it will also help deal with the limitations of seasonal tourism.

The new building’s architect is Valentinos Ioannou, while the contracts with the construction company were signed back in October 2022.

The old Ski Centre has been operating since the 1960s, with very few changes or improvements being made along the way. The aim now is to increase winter and sports tourism, enrich the island’s winter tourism product, promote domestic tourism, upgrade the mountain communities and their economies, encourage young people to visit and play sport in the mountain areas, and upgrade Cyprus’ presence in international sporting events.
