University of Cyprus Campus: What’s in the revised masterplan

University of Cyprus aims to gradually move the majority of its activities that are currently being run in temporary spaces to its Campus in Athalassa by 2025.

The campus’ revised masterplan, which was recently green-lit by the Department of Environment, envisages, among other things, the creation of student residences, a Faculty of Science, a multi-story car park and other infrastructure projects.

The general masterplan for the UCy Campus covers an area of 1.29km2 and provides for the creation of facilities to accommodate 13,820 students by 2030.

The campus is located around five kilometres south-east of the Nicosia town centre and falls under the Aglandjia municipality. To the northwest, the Campus is surrounded by a low- and medium-density developing area consisting of private student residences and private residential units.

To the south and southwest of the Campus is the Athalassa National Park, which also includes the Athalassa Forest. The southeastern part of the Campus falls within the Bufferzone and is monitored by the United Nations.

The Kalogiros river also runs through the campus and meets Vizakoto River on the campus’ southern side.

The plans also include the creation of a park with around 600 trees as well as a photovoltaic park with a 10 MWp capacity.

The project includes the installation of an electrical energy storage system with a capacity of 2,350 MWh, and this project could potentially make the University energy independent

The University has completed the installation of photovoltaic elements in a section located at the western entrance of the Campus near the student residences but also on the roofs of the "Anastassios G. Leventis" Council-Assembly and Social Activities buildings.
