Andreas Demetriades announces candidacy for CCCI presidency

After more than 40 years of an uninterrupted presence at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), its Vice-President Andreas Demetriades has officially announced his candidacy for presidency of the body.

President of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Stavros Stavrou, has also stated his intention to run.

In an announcement announcing his candidacy, Demetriades said the decision was taken with the conviction that the CCCI is an institution of key importance for businesses, the state and workers.

His main priority will be the further strengthen the Chamber’s offering to its members, as well as its efficiency, purpose, and presence, thus contributing to a strong Cypriot economy. Demetriades also aims to emphasise solving the problems affecting the sectors of industry, commerce, tourism, and services, the announcement said.

Firmly believing that Cyprus has what it takes to become an international regional business and financial centre, as well as a centre of higher education and a centre for the provision of high-quality medical and pharmaceutical services, Demetriades declares that he is ready to work methodically and decisively, with the aim of CCCI to play a pivotal role and spearhead a series of bold cuts and reforms, the announcement continued.

Demetriades’ main goal through his candidacy for the position of President of CCCI is to realise the shared vision for a strong Chamber of Commerce, for the general good of the economy and our country, it concluded.

Biography

Andreas Demetriades is a lawyer and economist, holder of a B.Sc.(Hons) degree in Industry and Trade and an M.Sc. in Operational Research from the University of London's School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), as well as an LL.B. from the University of London. He is chairman of the Board of Directors and managing director of the law firm ANDREAS CHR. DEMETRIADES LLC.

He is Vice-President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Association of Large Investment Projects, and a member of the boards of directors of other companies.

He was President of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1990-2 and 2014-2020, President of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company of the Paphos Region from 2014-2017, President of the Audit Committee for "Paphos 2017", President of the Rotary Club of Paphos, Member of the Authority's Boards of Directors of Cyprus Telecommunications and the State Fairs Authority, member of the Board of Directors of the multinational Euro African Satellite Telecommunications (EAST) and other organizations.

He is married to Pitsa Papadopoulou and has two children, lawyer and academic George Demetriades and lawyer Christiana Demetriades.
