Louis Pohanis: Business is the backbone of the Cyprus economy

"Without entrepreneurship, there can be no development, and without development there can be no progress," the executive director of Genikes Insurance Louis Pohanis suggests, underlining that it is no coincidence that our country manages to record particularly positive growth rates during very difficult times.

This, as noted by Pohanis in his address at the awards ceremony of the 10th KEBE Business Leader Awards, is mainly due to entrepreneurs like those who are being awarded within the framework of the institution, and whom he went on to warmly congratulate.

Pointing out that a business is not just its sales and profitability, but its people, partners, customers and its footprint on society and the environment, Louis Pohanis underlined that when a business progresses, a company develops and evolves with it, as a small ecosystem, creating multiple benefits for everyone.

“Putting all these little ecosystems together,” he said, “creates what we call a business. The backbone of the Cypriot economy."

Referring in particular to KEBE Business Leader Awards, Louis Pohanis described it as a great gathering of Cypriot business, which for a decade has been the ultimate institution for recognising business leadership, rewarding innovation, leadership and insight.

"With 19% growth in the last three years, the highest profitability in our sector, very high customer satisfaction rates, we couldn't help but be here again this year proudly presenting the KEBE Business Leader Awards, "he emphasised, to underline that General Insurance for more than 70 years has been an organisation that remains resilient and develops in a sustainable way in the midst of unprecedented challenges and always standing by its customers and the wider society.

Your Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus,

Distinguished guests,

In the uncertain times we live in, it becomes even more important to recognise and reward those who identify challenges in time, study them and make those decisions that will protect their businesses.

At Genikes Insurance we have a global picture of what entrepreneurship is in Cyprus. A business is more than just its sales and profitability. It is its people, its partners, and its customers. It is its imprint on society and the environment.

When a business progresses, a small ecosystem grows and evolves with it, creating multiple benefits for everyone. Putting all these small ecosystems together creates what we call a business. The backbone of the Cypriot economy.

For more than 70 years, Genikes Insurance has been an organisation that remains resilient and grows sustainably in the midst of unprecedented challenges, always standing by its customers and the wider society.

In recent years, we have been investing significantly in the digital transformation of the organisation and in its sustainable development, keeping up with international trends and the demands of our customers, creating new products that respond to modern data.

Thus, with a wide range of products and services, we meet the needs of more than 100,000 individuals, professionals, and businesses.

With 19% growth in the last three years, the highest profitability in our sector, and very high customer satisfaction rates, we couldn't help but be here again this year proudly presenting the ΚΕΒΕ Business Leader Awards - This great gathering of Cypriot business which for a decade has been the ultimate recognition institution for business leadership, rewarding innovation, leadership, and insight.

Dear friends,

It is no coincidence that our country manages to register particularly positive growth rates in very difficult times. It is mainly due to entrepreneurs like those who will be awarded tonight, but also to all of you who constantly strive for the best. Without entrepreneurship there can be no development, without development there can be no progress.

Warm congratulations to all the awardees, but also to the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry for this initiative which has become an institution.

Thank you.
