The Old Rulebook of Power Has Just Been Scrapped

Governments want growth, businesses demand predictability and investors seek security. The problem is that the world of 2027 appears unwilling to offer any of the three without a considerable price.

Wars, geopolitical rivalries, energy insecurity, demographic pressures and artificial intelligence are producing a new reality: uncertainty is no longer an exceptional condition. It has become the permanent operating system of politics and business.

This is the backdrop to the 17th Limassol Economic Forum, taking place on Friday, 23 October 2026, at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Under the theme “The World in 2027: The New Global Landscape for Business, Economics & Security,” the Forum will translate global instability into concrete questions of policy, strategy and investment.

Cyprus’ Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, and the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, will address the role of Cyprus and the European Union at a time when Europe is under growing pressure to strengthen its competitiveness, defence capabilities and political cohesion.

From the business perspective, Demetris Demetriou, Pieris Markou, Elias Neocleous and Constantinos Savvides will open the 2027 file from inside the boardroom. What is the greatest strategic risk facing companies? Where will investment flow? And is artificial intelligence still a source of competitive advantage, or is it rapidly becoming the basic price of admission?

International entrepreneur John Christodoulou will take the discussion further, exploring how leaders identify opportunities, take calculated risks and build long-term value when stability can no longer be taken for granted.

The changing international order will be examined by the heads of the Italian, British and Indian diplomatic missions in Cyprus. Meanwhile, Loukas Tsoukalis, Panayotis Tsakonas, Constantinos Filis and Steven Blockmans will analyse Europe’s strategic power, defence capacity and the rapidly shifting geopolitical map of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Economists Nikos Vettas and Panos Tsakloglou will turn the spotlight on productivity, labour markets, demographic decline and the sustainability of Europe’s pension systems. MEPs Michalis Hadjipantela and Georgios Aftias will debate Europe’s economic future, while Evgenios Evgeniou and Dimitris Skalkos will examine where global capital is likely to flow over the next five years.

The Forum does not promise certainty. It offers something more useful: a clearer view of the choices ahead — before events begin making those choices for us.
