Kraken and University of Cyprus award six postgraduate scholarships

Kraken, a Payward company, and the University of Cyprus today awarded six postgraduate scholarships at a ceremony in Nicosia. Each scholarship will go towards students’ fees for the 2026-2027 academic year. Three go to students in the MSc in Finance and three to students in the MSc in Data Science.

The recipients focus on economics, finance and innovation in their research and careers. The scholarships come out of a partnership between Payward, Kraken’s parent company, and the University of Cyprus’s Faculty of Economics and Management. The Faculty selects the recipients under the University’s established procedures and weighs financial need alongside academic merit.

"Cyprus is one of our two hubs in Europe, and the quality of its universities is part of the reason," said Alexia Theodorou, European Head of Derivatives and CEO of Kraken Cyprus. "These scholarships put our support directly behind six students whose work will shape how finance operates here and across the continent."

“At the University of Cyprus, we believe that investing in talented young people is an investment in the future. A university education is not only about acquiring knowledge and qualifications. It is also about learning to think critically, developing new skills and preparing to meet the challenges of a changing world,” said Professor Tasos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus. “This is why cooperation between universities and the private sector matters. The partnership between the University of Cyprus and Kraken is a good example of how such cooperation can create opportunities for students and strengthen the links between education and the wider economy.”

Cyprus is one of Payward’s two strategic hubs in Europe. Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, the group’s regulated entity in Cyprus, is an authorised investment firm supervised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
