“My journey to acting was a little different than most,” actress Daphne Alexander said on Wednesday at INSPIRE 2026’s Future of Work stage, reflecting on how she found her way into the profession.
Alexander said she had not always known that acting was the career she wanted to pursue. Growing up in a family of lawyers, she initially felt that her own career path had already been set.
That changed when she was given an opportunity to act while at university.
“When I got an opportunity, I tried. I instantly fell in love,” she said.
Following her first experience of acting, Alexander went on to take part in a production in Cyprus before moving to London to attend drama school and pursue acting professionally.
Reflecting on the uncertainty and fear that accompanied her decision, Alexander said pursuing a different path required courage.
“People who are courageous, are afraid. Having courage didn’t mean that I wasn’t afraid,” she said, describing her early steps into the acting world.
Her journey, she suggested, highlights how unexpected opportunities can challenge assumptions about the career path people are expected to follow and ultimately lead them towards work they are passionate about.
