Cyprus and Estonia establish interconnection for cross-border electronic health services

Cyprus has established an interconnection with Estonia as part of efforts to further develop cross-border electronic health services, expanding digital healthcare services available to citizens of both countries.

According to an announcement by the National eHealth Authority (NeHA), Cyprus is continuing to expand its participation in the European MyHealth@EU infrastructure, strengthening the secure exchange of health data and access to electronic health services across national borders.

Through the new connection, where the relevant services are available, citizens of the two countries can use their electronic prescriptions when they are in the other country, facilitating access to the medication they require.

At the same time, Cyprus and Estonia are exchanging Patient Summaries. This means that when a citizen requires medical care in the other country, healthcare professionals can access key information needed to provide safe and effective treatment.

This information may include medication, allergies, diagnoses and other essential details from the patient’s medical history.

“This capability is particularly important for citizens who travel, work or temporarily reside in another European country and may require medical care”, the Authority said, adding that the interconnection with Estonia represents another important step in expanding Cyprus’ European network through MyHealth@EU.

The National eHealth Authority said it is continuing its efforts to link Cyprus with an increasing number of European Union Member States, with the aim of expanding cross-border electronic health services.
