World leaders send President congratulatory messages on Cyprus Independence anniversary

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, has received messages of congratulations from dozens of heads of state and government on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.

Among many others, President Christodoulides received congratulatory messages from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Felipe VI of Spain, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, Hungarian President András Baka and Prime Minister Péter Magyar, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the statement, in his message, Chinese President Xi Jinping noted, among other things, that China and Cyprus are trusted friends that have always respected and supported one another, upholding the principles of solidarity, mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation amid a turbulent international environment.

He further noted that this year marks 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as five years since the launch of their strategic cooperation, and expressed his willingness to further deepen bilateral relations.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, whose country participated with a military contingent and aircraft in Thursday’s military parade in Nicosia marking the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus, referred in his message to the long-standing relations between Cyprus and Egypt. He assured President Christodoulides of his determination to continue working jointly with the Cypriot Government to further strengthen bilateral relations in several areas of mutual interest.

He added that the President of the Republic’s recent visit to El Alamein provides further impetus to constructive bilateral cooperation.
