Job vacancies decreased by 19.5% or 3,123 positions in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 12,930 from 16,503 in the same period of 2025, while compared to the first quarter of the year, a decrease of 975 positions or 7% was observed.
According to CySTAT data, the percentage of vacancies in relation to total employees and vacant positions in the second quarter of 2026 was 2.6%, while in the first quarter and the corresponding quarter of 2025 they were 2.8% and 3.3%, respectively.
The highest percentages of vacancies are recorded in the sectors of Accommodation and Food Service Activities (4.6%), Transportation and Storage (3.5%) and Administrative and Support Service Activities(3.5%).
The sectors with the most positions
In numbers, most vacancies (2,827) are observed in the second quarter of 2026 in Accommodation and Food Service Activities, while 2,286 vacancies are observed in Wholesale and Retail Trade.
Vacancies in Construction rose to 1,330, recording an increase of 48.3% compared to the second quarter of 2025 (897) and a decrease of 33.4% compared to the first quarter of 2025 (1,997).
There are 859 vacancies in Transportation and Storage, 874 in Professional, Scientific and Technical activities, and 854 in Manufacturing.
There were 789 job vacancies in Administrative and Support Service Activities, 665 in Public Administration and Defence, Compulsory Social Security, while 572 vacancies were observed in activities related to Human Health and Social Work Activities.
Vacancies in Telecommunication, Computer Programming, Consulting, Computing Infrastructure and Other Information Service Activities fell by 37.1% in one year, reaching 441 in the second quarter of 2026 from 701 in the same quarter of 2025, while 398 vacancies are recorded in Financial and Insurance Activities.
Vacancies in the Arts, Sports and Recreation sector fell by 64.4%, reaching 162 in the second quarter of 2026 from 455 in the corresponding period last year and 547 in the first quarter of 2026.
The sectors with the fewest positions
No job vacancies are recorded in the second quarter of 2026 in the Mining and Quarrying sector, while only 11 vacancies are recorded in the Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply, down from 17 in the corresponding period in 2025.
Vacancies in Real Estate Activities fell by 32.8%, reaching 41 from 61 in the second quarter of 2025.
In Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities, vacancies amounted to 85 in the second quarter of 2026 compared to 58 in the second quarter of 2025 and 48 in the first quarter of 2026.
