Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 to begin on 23 September

From 23 to 26 September 2026, the Troodos mountain range will welcome Mountain Games Cyprus 2026, a non-profit European event co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Sport programme, under the central message 'Healthy Lifestyles for All.'

Four days, six themes, more than 35 activities and experiences across 8 mountain communities in Troodos. The event brings together 10 European organisations with 44 members from 9 delegations, bodies and associations from 10 countries, as well as more than 20 Cypriot organisations, including state bodies, national federations, local authorities and specialised organisations. Coordination is led by the MountMed Institute.

Six Themes, One Shared Experience

The programme unfolds across six themes: the Mountain Games International Symposium, an international scientific conference on physical activity, public health and healthy lifestyles; Elevate Your Life, an experiential programme for students and young people; Mountain Games in Action, with hikes, orienteering, cycling and a mentoring football tournament; Mountain Culture in Motion, with intercultural traditional dance, music and cultural activities; Taste, Move & Thrive, a two-day mountain products market and gastronomy workshops in Omodos; and Mountain Games: A Laboratory for the Future, dedicated to the three columns of healthy living - exercise, nutrition, and wellness.

The Programme, Day by Day

The event opens on Wednesday, 23 September in Platres with the Mountain Games International Symposium, held under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Mr Neophytos Charalambides, followed in the evening by a welcome night for the European delegations at Pendeli Resort. The President of the House of Representatives will participate in the proceedings of the symposium by delivering a speech.

On Thursday, 24 September, the Elevate Your Life programme brings hundreds of students to Apeitios Gymnasium in Agros, while the Madari–Pitsilia hike, the walk to Kalidonia Waterfall, the Artemis Trail hike and a thematic conference on mountain tourism in Agros all take place in parallel. The conference is held under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kostas Koumis, who will attend and deliver an address.

On Friday, 25 September, Omodos opens its two-day Taste, Move & Thrive programme with the Mountain Agrifood Products and Makers Market and gastronomy workshops, alongside the Elevate Your Life programme at Omodos School, the "Women of the Mountain" conference and Orienteering.

On Saturday, 26 September, the event reaches its peak with the Mountain Games Ayia Marina Cycling Festival and the Mountain Games Mentoring Football Tournament U12 in Kakopetria, while Taste, Move & Thrive continues in Omodos. The event concludes in Platres with the Mountain Games Legacy Forum and the Official Closing Ceremony, followed in the evening by the Mountain Games Closing Gala.

Practical Information

Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 activities take place from 23 to 26 September 2026 in communities across Troodos, centred on Platres, Agros, Spilia, Kakopetria, Evrychou and Omodos. Most activities are open to the public and free of charge, with the exception of selected evening events by invitation or reservation only.
